The Berlin Underwaterrugby Lady's Team

Once upon a time ... that’s how fairy tales begin. And the story of the Underwater Rugby ladies of TC-Berlin certainly is like a fairy tale. In 1991/1992 (a. Chr. :-)) this group was formed. It was pretty tough for these gals to compete nationally and internationally those first few years, but they brewed a special potion, that would make them undefeatable, still today.

The following ingredients were required for this brew (especially against the „evil powers of southern Germany“ :-) :-) :-) - just kidding!!!): enthusiasm, perserverance and patience, ambition, eagerness to train, team spirit, and a lot of humor and fun in the brawl.

It’s as though the founding team members fell into the pot of potion and drank with abandon, because they still play today: Anja Auberg, Birgit Lüdke (geb. Wieland), Steafnie Seidler and Kerstin Jahn – they are members of the original team. However, Kati Vehlow, the twins Alice and Swantje Thoms and Sabine Sembries also ingested the magic potion shortly afterwards. It had a special effect on Kati, as she has been the world champion in fin swimming numerous times – the team is very proud to have her as a member.

In 2001, the team was able to celebrate its first breakthrough and became German national champions. Then there came a dry spell, with meager rations of the magic potion and a few defeats. But since 2006, the Berlin team has been on a winning streak and is hoping it will continue.

The Underwater Rugby ladies of TC Berlin have even been able to hold off the competition internationally and place first at the Championscup.

Even when roly poly pregnancies threaten to weaken the team, the fin ladies Lorena Bianchi, Christine Reich, Anja Kausch, Coro Grauf and possibly Anja Förster in the near future ensure consistency in the team.

Of course, without the Power Nymphs of the nation – Marlies Brinkmann, Bea Deitelhoff, Katharina von Einem, Uli Gallasch, Vroni Schulte, Astrid Krösser and Marion Schlue – the team would be screwed!!! They also add a bunch of enthusiasm to the potion and give it a fantastic taste :-).

Yes, the UWR-ladie's team TC Berlin has a longstanding, successful stock. And the few wrinkles that are visible here and there, surely do not effect the feeling of youth and fitness of this team.

Okay ladies, off to victory number 5 of the Championscup 2009!!!
